Absolutely loved boho in the aughts but I just don’t think I’m ready to see it return. I’m not sure exactly why. Maybe its carefree spirit feels too at odds with the current state of the world. Maybe I just miss the giant embroidered hobo bag I used as a bookbag in 2005 that left a constant giant bruise on my hip, because a burlap sack isn’t a proper vessel for transporting pharmacology textbooks.

Thats probably why there is a big push for its return - as a form of escapism. I've never been a boho girlie so interesting to hear from an OG fan that it's not hitting yet.

Also love the commitment! 😂

I could absolutely get behind Moth-eaten Maximalism, which is basically the Grey Gardens kind of boho (I think every decade has its take on that, even if they don't specifically recognise it with the label). Feels apposite for the moment especially with the fact that Grey Gardens literally is a crumbling dangerous grand old house, you know? Same with the peep-toe and the mixing of decades. EDIT: oh and also the dark green, I love it.

and yes, enough with the Carrie Bradshaw stuff PLEASE.

Yeah I'm really into the idea of mixing like an almost black-green with red or burgundy. This is so out of character for me because I usually despise red and green combined - the Christmas palette.

Romanticising CB has gotten totally out of control, especially on Substack. I just want one day of scrolling where I don't have to see her face and wardrobe.

red and green shifted into a darker key look great together - remove the brightness and you also remove the hackneyed Christmas palette look, you know? I've done it and I actually really liked it!

it's funny how the CB thing is getting on my nerves. I don't think I'd have the same reaction to, say, Lana del Rey worship in the present day because at least that feels a bit more rooted in what the girls posting about her might have actually been into as kids/teens.

Makes perfect sense! I'll have to keep my eye out for something dark green on Depop.

Yeah I feel that she's also such a divisive character, you really love her or hate her. I understand the impact on SATC on fashion (really enjoyed Mark Gong's recent nods to charlotte) but let's mix it up a bit.

I think even wearing them as nail polish colours could work! Personally I've always thought of burgundy/dark green as neutrals, it boggled my mind when I first saw people list them in 'I'm wearing colour' outfits. Says a lot about the shift in mindset around colour palettes since the 00s.

re: CB - don't get me wrong I do enjoy her as a character (love a messy imperfect bitch heroine) and do love her fashion on SATC the show, but on substack she's becoming the High Sport pants of tv characters and we just need a little break from it all.

Agree, burgundy nails are usually my go to so they're neutral!

Agreed about the skinny jeans, and that at this point in time late 2024, I can’t quite tell when out and about who’s an early adopter of the revival and who never stopped. Age would be the giveaway, but there’s an ambiguous age range where it could go either way 🤔

Moth-eaten Maximalism as a phrase is inspiring me to go s bit further with my current wardrobe mixing. And the skinned muppets (always so hard to say out loud) is fun to see again, too!

Great point! Also I feel like when skinny jeans first were big that was the only choice available. Now they will coexist with straight, wide leg and barrel leg etc.

It's kind of hard to do an in and out list from a fashion perspective these days as more things are "trending" than not. Which I guess is a good thing to shatter the illusion that you should only be wearing what has been deemed by tastemakers as "hot". But then there is also too much choice and pressure for customers to buy more more more.

Aw I'm glad you like Moth-Eaten Maximalism. I'm trying to make it a thing 🦋

Obviously I’m all about the bath house push of 2025 UNLESS my sacred spaces become overrun by insufferable people - learning spa etiquette and codes is something I’ve been pondering on

100% - I love the idea of a business meeting in a bathhouse but needs to be separate from relaxation.

"Filming or photographing nonconsenting adults for content" !!! literally still shocks me that this hasn't officially left our feeds years later after the mass posting and consumption on YouTube circa 2014-2017 of these once funny videos due to our unfamiliarity with the concept of public pranks outside the tele and directly on our phone screens . it sickens me , to my core when i see idiots on the internet making the public uncomfortable for some stupid video , wished there was better community guidelines but what would u expect from algorithms that focus on censoring the nipple and still allow for cp adjacent content to surpass their system. in for the next year (hopefully) is harsher digital footprint suffrage , so all the freaks on the internet can get held accountable for their actions on the online world , a note to all Parasocial weirdos out there .

100% - It pisses me off so much. A lot of stuff is staged now but the random acts of "kindness" really grind my gears. You don't need to film yourself being kind, it defeats the purpose 🙄

yees to barefaced and smudgy lips, seeing and doing this myself in the office and weekends the past year, noticing it change around me. love it. another in for me from home wear is decorating to suit a space over decorating being driven by aesthetic. Boho continuing for sure, seeing this in people's natural hair & matching with the bareface vibes too.
