"like when my mum told me people over 40 shouldn't wear leopard print and I believed it." Every Italian-American in my neighborhood just gasped in horror.
As soon as Bottega cross hatch heels and soft pouches were everywhere I became allergic to them… now they’re all over resale for exactly the reasons you listed above
I feel like this post called me out, lol, as I have the rainbow Acne Studios scarf (which I also refuse to part ways with) and the green With Jean dress (which I’ve never worn) - maybe buying viral pieces is no longer the way to go?
I didn’t know any of these things were viral bc I’m not on TikTok and barely look at my IG… except the acne scarf which I see everywhere! And I am into fashion and style! Which is to say, there are SO MANY viral things that maybe the viralness of something matters less and less, the faster viral trends pass through?
Anyway, I’m 43 and would wear the shit out of that realization par dress, so you can definitely still wear it! Since it’s no longer viral I’m gonna see if I can find one on Poshmark :).
Oh God, McQueen skull scarves ( I have three languishing in the wardrobe), Mulberry's Alexa ( leopard calfskin), the Miu Miu silver tassel loafers ( hidden in the wardrobe when a pick-me beauty writer posted a photo of her wearing a pair), and those Roger Vivier pumps that every upper east-sider suddenly started wearing.
I bought the House of Sunny dress second hand and this was before I was on tiktok so when I was researching how to care for it I was surprised to see it was had already had its day. But its so cute! Thank u for singing its praises again. Im gonna still wear mine too :)
I never got any at the time they were viral but there's a pair of Isabel Marant Becketts (viral in 2011-12, acquired via ebay in January 2022 for 45 quid!) and Acne Jensens (viral in 2015? made their way to me only in 2023) still hanging around and I don't want to get rid of them anytime soon. Also a pair of Miu Miu daisy print clogs from Spring/Summer 2010 that have been with me since 2019? Unwalkable but so cute I've sworn to keep them as bookends even if they're no longer wearable.
I wanted the Jensens soooo badly! Great deal on the Becketts and I feel like you got in before the second wave of wedge sneakers - they've had such a comeback recently.
for what it's worth the Jensens are the only boots with a pointed-toe design to not absolutely murder my wide feet on contact (true to size, I got a black suede pair which I think have a bit more give). Definitely worth considering if you're still in the market for a comfy-ish not too high block heeled boot that can be worn under trousers (kitten heel boots are not for me), and ebay still has decent deals.
Also not a kitten heel boot person! I'll have to take stock of my boot collection when winter comes round, I can't seem to think about them right now when it's 30 degrees 😅
I own 2 bucket bags from MG and I love them. I have a mini black patent one that I have even worn to formal events. They were the first expensive bags I ever bought for myself and they were totally worth it. I also have a realisation par dress but it is the Juliet (in its mini version, it does not exist anymore), and I got so many compliments when I wore it for the first time, I still love it, wear it, and it reminds me of a very happy time.
Ooh yes, Realisation! Their viral leopard print skirt got me and I was thrilled when I found it secondhand, but tbh have barely worn it. The RealReal is flooded with them, so I’m going to make an effort to wear mine this summer.
I needed to read this, thank you! A gray Kenzo tiger sweater has been hanging in my closet for too many years and I have been a bit paralyzed by it. Haha. Time to let it go!
I haven’t had any of these particular items, but I’ve had a ton of stuff I’d owned for years suddenly became really trendy (e.g. cowboy boots, yellow onitsuka tigers, Margiela tabis…) I still wear them and love them regardless but I always feel a slight fear that people will call me a “microtrend final boss” when I’ve had these pieces for 5+ years. But tbh I think it’s actually quite cool to wear old trends. Rebellious even in this day in age
I definitely had the Réalisation and sold it. The sleeves were just way too long for me. I think you could make the Kenzo sweater cool again! Lean into the cheesy-tourist vibes.

Blasphemy on my mum's part 😂 😭
I reeeeally want to see photos of the scratched up MG bag and the moth eaten acne scarf! I love seeing how stuff wears in/out.
I'll have to post them somewhere - they are very well loved 🥰

Oh how I used to want the soft pouch!

Snuggly blanket scarves forever imo! My With Jean dress is currently on Depop with countless others selling theirs.

Yesss so hear for wearing things outside the trend cycle.
The chokehold that house of sunny dress had in me 😭
Oh me too! I'm yet to bust it out this summer but I love that my partner tracked it down for me.

(all my ex-virals are shoes, go figure)

Just divine x

Need the sexist dress it’s so pretty
That Mansur Gavriel bag looks as good now as it did then!
