YESSSS another TDWP fashion hater (ok it's just Andy's looks I detest - Emily, Miranda and Gisele are dressed in a way that looked very in line with what was actually prevalent in fashion magazine offices of that era i.e. a time when wearing flats in the office could get you told off if a senior editor saw them).

Pretty much any Audrey Hepburn film is guaranteed to be a 10/10 on the costumes front, quite an achievement when you consider this applies even to her black and white films.

Miranda reminds me that we need to see more older women on screen as style icons instead of being pigeon-holed into frumpy costumes. I also reckon Fiona Shaw's character in Killing Eve didn't get enough fash cred.

the chicest character in Emily in Paris is a now 60something French woman (actress is in her 60s, character looks in her early 50s?) Which I think is the point as she's meant to be the foil to garish 20something Emily, but it works - her looks are polished and sexy, lots of texture and great cuts going on there.

the Sex and the City sequel series also makes a point of showing Carrie being as bold and extravagant as ever with her style in her late 50s and I appreciate that even if the costumes sometimes aren't my cup of tea (I'm not watching the show this is just based off costume pics).

film-wise, I'm so looking forward to Winona in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice - 50something Lydia Deetz as a style icon? Be still my heart <3

I’ve just cheekily downloaded Pret-a-Porter from the 90s. Allegedly camp!
