Silly Little Outfits To Boost Serotonin For Sad Office Days Vol.3
New format - elevator out of order!
I had to reconstruct the latest batch of outfits that I wore to work in my apartment, which is why the lighting is all the same. I actually like this format a lot better and don’t have to feel so awkward trying to take mirror selfies in a public place, so going forward, let’s give this a whirl.
I’m not a TikTok girlie and clearly have no idea what I’m doing. I guess I need to remember to stand back so you can see all of my shoes - some fun Ganni cowboy boots got cut off, and I can’t be arsed refilming, so that’ll be one to stick around for next time. Who knows, maybe my little cat will make some cameos! (see end of article for surprise).
The Essentials
I’m not a necklace person as I think my collarbones are too nice to obscure, so the main accessories you’ll catch me in are rings and earrings. My rings are from my favorite jewelry brand, Alighieri, which has a studio right by my office in London. I wear the amore and star sign signet (I’m an Aries if it wasn’t obvious) with some other gold pieces from Melbourne label S-Kin. The teardrop earrings are a Sabi The Label sample I purchased at a market and my sunglasses are handmade in Italy by a brand called Auór, which sadly appears to have closed down.
I’m always on a mission to find the perfect white shirt. I like how this one from Vince (second-hand) is split at the sides, making it easy to tuck into jeans. As I’m obsessed with tailoring, I purchased The Frankie Shop Louise Cut Out Trousers last year, though I’m a bit disappointed that they look more navy than grey. It’s also hard to find something that is the perfect length to wear with them that isn’t too cropped. I usually roll up a white tank top or, as in the vid, opt for a slightly shrunken jumper. This one I got almost a decade ago at Oak, a shop in New York that no longer exists.
Second-Handies
You may be pleased to read that some of the pieces I was hunting for in the last edition manifested into my wardrobe. While I couldn't justify a Hermès straw bag with my salary, I did manage to live out my French Girl fantasies with a $6 style from Depop that gives off Bottega vibes. I also found the Dissh Dion Black Boucle Vest from another seller, which I’m wearing with some pre-loved Ganni pinstriped trousers.
You may have also spotted a camel trench coat. That, my friends, is the pride and joy of my thrifted collection. She’s a Jil Sander (note: the coat below is represented by a similar TOTEME style), which I stumbled across in a vintage store in Kraków in 2017. Poland is an ideal place for shopping second-hand as you can get a lotty for your złoty, so the coat came to around 60 AUD. It’s beautiful Italian leather and surprisingly easy to clean, which I know as I managed to knock an entire glass of red over it on my first wear (fortunately, the wine and tear stains came out beautifully).
Similarly to The Frankie Shop trousers, this Jacquemus Le Tordu cardigan is not an easy wear. Pull it down too much and a whole boob plops out. Also, it requires some lower-waist bottoms as the cut-outs can look a bit clunky on higher rises. Nevertheless, I stand by this Depop purchase and she continues to get plenty of wear.
Future Influences
Before I headed overseas, I got my eyebrows laminated and wondered why I even bothered since they still managed to look like distant cousins. So, I’ve been telling anyone who will listen about my plans to get them bleached to help me feel like an icon again. I love the look on Julia Fox, our queen and savior, and Carmen Azzopardi, who is currently doing an outfit prompt series that I can’t stop watching. Ideally, I’d have bleached brows for my upcoming Japan trip in a few months, though we just need to get Joel on board (Hautties, please tell Joel to get on board in the comments below).
Additionally, for my upcoming Euro trip, I’ve been seeking out another Réalisation Par dress for my collection of once-viral styles. Since I work remotely, I don’t own a lot of modest clothing, so something floor-length and long-sleeved that can transition from meetings in London to markets in Istanbul should do the trick. Speaking of viral, I have been writing extensively about balloon silhouettes at work. I loved this shape in my teens and I’m really enjoying the trend bubbling up again everywhere, from luxury labels like Coperni to lingerie brands like Michaela Stark’s Panty Studio.
And, of course, I can’t forget to mention Jonathan Anderson making a Loewe clutch bag out of a tomato meme and Rihanna’s Conner Ives “I’m Retired” dress!
What Else?
My gorgeous friend Aoife over at Between Friends masterfully curates what she’s reading, watching and coveting on her wonderful Substack, which I’d recommend you all check out! Inspired by Aoife, I’ve popped together my own little list…
Reading: Butter: A Novel of Food and Murder by Asako Yuzuki. I adore Japanese authors and have just started this delicious tale of a female food blogger/sugar baby turned serial killer.
Listening to: brat Charli xcx. Isn’t everyone? Not usually my kind of music because I don’t go to clubs ever but I can’t get 360 out of my head.
Watching: Ru Paul’s Drag Race: All Stars 9. I will watch anything Drag Race without question. Also, I’ve been revisiting Boston Legal because I love James Spader. There is actually a great Spotify playlist called marry me, james spader I implore everyone to listen to (I did not create it).
Oh yeah and cat.
